Using this line as the title of the album seems to be Bridgers’ way of lightening the mood of a record that is otherwise lyrically very sad and heavy. She went on to explain the album title: The title was really striking to me. I’ve never been to the Alps but I’m obsessed with winter, nature, forests. It’s really ironic that I live in urban sprawl but it makes me appreciate it a lot more I think. Interestingly, Phoebe recorded all the vocals on the album while in the dark. It’s so atmospheric, so we were experimenting a lot. Matthew the producer would just turn off all the lights.
