With a friendship based on mutual admiration, Bing Crosby and Louis Armstrong recorded a series of classic songs and appeared together in many hit movies. Their radio work continued for years, and a two-disc album, Havin’ Fun, taken from radio shows from 1949-51, shows their relaxed and witty ad libbing – with asides from trombonist Jack Teagarden. Bing Crosby hosted a radio program beginning in 1949 that ran throughout most of the following decade. It featured a number of different musicians, with his good friend Louis Armstrong as a frequent guest. This two-CD set, previously issued on individual discs by Jazz Unlimited as Havin' Fun and Havin' More Fun, was repackaged by Storyville, adding detailed liner notes by Chris Albertson. The banter between the two men varies between ad-libbed and scripted, though it is clear they enjoy one another's company on-stage. During the Second World War, Crosby made live appearances before American troops who had been fighting in the European Theater. He learned how to pronounce German from written scripts and read propaganda broadcasts intended for German forces. In the 1949 Disney animated film The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, Crosby provided the narration and song vocals for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow segment.
