22 Finesse (Night Wind). Hittin' on All Six: A History of the Jazz Guitar.
The jazz guitar was finally defined as a distinctive playing style with so much room to experiment and more importantly, make progress. Throughout the genre’s history, whether it was the early days or the later pop influenced phases, jazz guitar always had its distinctive elements that made it immediately recognizable to the listener. There was always the odd-rhythm timing that was successfully implemented even within the straight-groove, 4/4 timing tunes.
The Moon Is Low. New Guitar Concepts P1136. 1. –Herbie Haymer's Orchestra.
While in its early days, jazz guitar was considered a rhythm instrument alongside the banjo of Dixieland. In 1940, Charlie Christian and his Gibson ES-150 changed that and elevated guitar to lead instrument status alongside the saxophone and trumpet-instruments that could acoustically cut through the sound of a piano-bass-drums rhythm section. Here, we encapsulate some of the progenitors of jazz guitar and their contributions to the music.

The result weighs on the latter side of the equation - nervousness and fear that the old-road dogs didn't have it in them to make new music are completely unfounded. Hittin' the Note is the band's finest studio outing since Brothers and Sisters over 20 years before.
