Cendres de lune is the first album by the French singer/songwriter Mylène Farmer, released on 1 April 1986. The album was preceded by the hit single "Libertine". The album was rereleased in 1987, preceded by the song "Tristana". The album, which was Farmer's only one written and composed by Laurent Boutonnat, achieved success in France. Despite this success, it is considered moderate when compared with Farmer's standards and her later high-selling albums, but it helped to launch her career.
Her debut album, Cendres de lune, was released in April 1986 and contained her first hit single, "Libertine". The album was re-released in 1987 with "Tristana", another top ten single in France. On the French Albums Chart, Cendres de lune debuted in 1989, after the success of Farmer's second album, and peaked at number 39 in June 1989. Thanks to her first number-one single in France, "Pourvu qu'elles soient douces", the album topped the chart as well for two weeks in December 1988.
Cendres de Lune" was released in 1986 and is the first album of Mylène. It is essential to better understand the particular universe created by Mylène and her companion Laurent Boutonnat. For the first time one can encounter the topics of preference of Mylène and Laurent: death, sex, black romanticism, confusion, suicide and (anti)religion. The music itself is for the most part rather merry and when once asked about this, Mylène replied: "Because they are cynical; cynicism saves everything!".
