Edwin Reuben Hawkins (August 19, 1943 – January 15, 2018) was an American gospel musician, pianist, choir master, composer, and arranger. He was one of the originators of the urban contemporary gospel sound. He (as leader of the Edwin Hawkins Singers) was probably best known for his arrangement of "Oh Happy Day" (1968–69), which was included on the "Songs of the Century" list.

He was best known for his 1967-hit song "Oh Happy Day" (with the Edwin Hawkins Singers), one of the first gospel songs that achieved mainstream success. Edwin Hawkins was a brother of Walter Hawkins.

Edwin grew up in a musical family and with the encouragement of his parents Mamie and Dan Lee Hawkins, pursued his musical passion. He began singing in youth choirs at a very early age, discovering early on that he had a God-given ability to play the piano (at 5years old). When he was 7, he began playing full time for the Hawkins family group and they released their first recording in 1957.
