The Trout Quintet (Forellenquintett) is the popular name for the Piano Quintet in A major, D. 667, by Franz Schubert. The piano quintet was composed in 1819, when he was 22 years old; it was not published, however, until 1829, a year after his death. Rather than the usual piano quintet lineup of piano and string quartet, the Trout Quintet is written for piano, violin, viola, cello and double bass

Schubert: Piano Quintet "The t"; Adagio and Rondo concertante. For the record, Domus was pianist Susan Tomes, violinist Krysia Osostowicz, violist Timothy Boulton, and cellist Richard Lester were augmented in the quintet with bassist Chi-chi Nwanoku. Each of the players is clearly a virtuoso - listen to Osostowicz soar in the solo lines of the Adagio & Rondo or Tomes float arpeggios in the quintet - but the group is more than the sum of its parts; it is a union of strong individuals dedicated to giving themselves to the music. And those strong individuals deserve to be named in the liner notes. Anything less is shameful.
