Felons and Revolutionaries is the debut studio album by the American band Dope. The album was released in 1999 on Epic Records and has sold over 236,000 copies in the United States being their best-selling album to date. It was re-released on June 17, 2000, with the single "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" (Dead Or Alive cover) as a bonus track. Pig Society", "Everything Sucks", "Sick", and "Debonaire" were also released as singles, but did not chart.

The Mighty Diamonds' Right Time album in 1976 ushered in the rockers rhythm and the Revolutionaries soon became Jamaican hit-makers in their own right with singles like "MPLA" and "Angola. Four LPs - Vital Dub Strictly Rockers, Revolutionary Sounds, Revival Dub Roots Now, and Satta Dub Strictly Roots - came out in Jamaica on the Well Charge label.

The album was smuggled into Angola and Portugal, and was a soundtrack for revolutionaries fighting for independence as the Portuguese dictatorship and colonial rule crumbled. The album was recorded in the Netherlands, the sounds are a mix of latin guitar and semba, traditional Angolan music, reflecting the patriotism and Angolan pride as well as the acceptance of other cultures. In 1972 Bonga fled to Rotterdam where he recorded his first album, Angola 72. Rotterdam was home to many portuguese – speaking Africans, which might have had an influence on his musical style.
