This is a Mission album in name only, yes you read that right. I'd never been a fan of what Wayne and co. do but if this is how their final chapter is to be written, I'm going to have to go back and re-visit what they have done. Craig Adams left, Simon was already gone and Hussey began just putting out whatever. There were flashes of what they'd been on their then final album Blue. An album detested by fans to this day. All that aside (and we'll ignore the recent "final" shows which somehow made it onto DVD), The Mission have made a beat up bluesy beast of a record here. Hussey's lyrics are as per the norm loaded with references and sly jabs at people and institutions, he does so seem to like being the acrid tongued balladeer.

The Mission this September will release its new studio album The Brightest Light, an 11-song collection that marks the first time original band members Wayne Hussey, Simon Hinkler and Craig Adams have recorded together since the sessions for 1990's Carved in Sand. The album also will be released on double vinyl and digitally. The new record will be the first new studio album from the reunited Mission - Hussey, Hinkler and Adams, plus new drummer Mike Kelly - since 2007′s God Is a Bullet. Hussey reunited The Mission in fall 2011 for the first time since the band’s string of album-spanning farewell gigs in London in February and March 2008. Since then, the band has performed through Europe, Mexico and South America. The Mission embarks on its first North American tour in 11 years on Sept. Tracklist: The Mission, The Brightest Light.

Children is the second regular studio album by the British rock-band The Mission. It was released in February 1988 by Mercury Records. Two singles were released from the album, "Tower of Strength" and "Beyond the Pale". A third single, "Kingdom Come", was scheduled but appeared as a promo-only. Serious musicianship has at last trumped this band’s somewhat feather-weight reputation. My oh my can these four do the business. It does not hurt one iota that for the first time since Carved In Sand, Simon Hinkler is a member again
