President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. Redirected from President's Council on Physical Fitness). The President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition (PCFSN) is an American government organization that aims to "promote, encourage and motivate Americans of all ages to become physically active and participate in sports"

The President's Council's mission is to increase sports participation among youth of all backgrounds and abilities and to promote healthy and active lifestyles for all Americans. As Special Government Employees (SGEs), our Council members are appointed by the President and serve in an advisory capacity through the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Misty May-Treanor Three-Time Beach Volleyball Olympic Gold Medalist.

The President's Challenge (also called Presidential Champions) was an American program promulgated by the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition that aimed to encourage all Americans to "make being active part of their everyday lives" and to be physically fit. The President's Challenge was designed to help motivate participants (international participants also eligible) to improve regardless of activity and fitness level. The Presidential Champions program was discontinued on June 30, 2018.

Physical fitness is a state of health and well-being and, more specifically, the ability to perform aspects of sports, occupations and daily activities. Physical fitness is generally achieved through proper nutrition, moderate-vigorous physical exercise, and sufficient rest.

Sports and physical activity help children and adolescents improve cardiorespiratory fitness, build strong bones and muscles, lower the likelihood of obesity, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, and reduce the risk of developing chronic health conditions. In addition, organized sports help our youth discover the importance of teamwork, social skills, hard work, determination, and the ability to overcome adversity. To address this issue, I have directed the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition (the Council) to work with the White House and the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) to develop a national strategy to increase youth sports participation. Through this strategy, we are increasing awareness of the benefits of participation in sports and regular physical activity and of the importance of good nutrition.

Lacy also served on the President's Council on Physical Fitness and on the Baseball Hall of Fame's selection committee for the Negro leagues. Schwarzenegger's first political appointment has been to the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, on which he served from 1990 to 1993. These goals were accomplished through the leadership of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, who co-sponsored the event with assistance from the National Senior Games Association (NSGA). Widely known for her series of fitness videos, she was appointed in 2006 by President George W. Bush to serve on the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.

Physical fitness is often in the news today, but it has long been a national concern. New programs to help keep Americans fit were a hallmark of John F. Kennedy's administration. After World War II, many Americans worried that US citizens, especially the young, were growing overweight and out of shape. Despite widespread support inside and outside the government, the council never quite found its way during the Eisenhower years. Personality conflicts and organizational difficulties often bogged down the council, but the real problem was that no one was clear about its purpose. Did fitness include intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and social fitness as well as physical fitness?

President and CEO.
