Jimmy Swaggart (born March 15, 1935) is a Pentecostal televangelist. His headquarters is called Family Worship Center based out of Baton Rouge, LA. Preacherhood came to Swaggart at an early age. He lived in church basements and held revivals in backwater rural Louisiana towns through much of the 1950s. His cousin, the famous singer Jerry Lee Lewis, tried to help him out with a recording deal to get him out of poverty since Swaggart was a passable musician

Johnson, padding around the suite in gym socks and a T-shirt that reads BLOOD SWEAT RESPECT, says he and Hashian were originally going to get married this spring in Hawaii. But then we got pregnant, he says. And Mama don’t wanna take wedding pictures with a big belly – Mama wanna look good. As a wrestler, Johnson spent years traveling the country performing in stadiums and arenas, learning what people wanted from their heroes. And the number-one goal in all those towns, from Paducah, Kentucky, to Bakersfield, California, was always take care of the audience. You find that today in anything I do. Never send an audience home unhappy. An only child, he found it hard to talk about his feelings. Johnson says he’s been to therapy a few times now. I’ve had a few bouts of depression, as happens to a lot of us, he says.

The weekly Jimmy Swaggart Telecast and A Study in the Word programs are broadcast throughout the US and on 78 channels in 104 other countries, and over the Internet. Jimmy Lee Swaggart was born in Ferriday, Louisiana, on March 15, 1935, to Willie Leon (. "Son") and Minnie Belle (née Herron) Swaggart. He is the cousin of rock'n'roll pioneer Jerry Lee Lewis and country music star Mickey Gilley. In 1965, The Imperials first recorded "He Touched Me" for their album The Happy Sounds of Jake Hess and the Imperials, then recorded a newer version in 1969 for the album Love Is The Thing. It was this version that Elvis Presley heard, and made him want to record it himself. On May 5, 1971, Elvis recorded it-along with the Imperials (as backup singers)-and was released as a single.

Reverend Jimmy Swaggart first started his television ministry in 1975 and it continues today, over 38 years later, airing nationally and internationally to a potential viewing audience of over 80 million. The weekly Jimmy Swaggart Telecast and A Study in the Word are seen nationwide and abroad on 78 channels in 104 countries and live over the Internet. His first album, Some Golden Daybreak, was made primarily to have a record he could give people at his early revivals. Recognizing his gift, Frances Swaggart began encouraging him to contact radio stations. As Jimmy Swaggart's songs began to be aired on radio, the public response was overwhelming.

Jimmy Swaggart, who last year condemned a fellow television evangelist, Jim Bakker, as ''a cancer on the body of Christ,'' today confessed to sins of his own and begged to be forgiven. Speaking before a congregation of 8,000 people at his World Faith Center here, Mr. Swaggart said that his ministry would continue, but that he would be absent from the pulpit for ''an indeterminate time. The church in which Mr. Swaggart today admitted his failings was filled with the emotions associated with confession and remorse. He said he blamed no one for his own fall from grace, ''no one but myself, no one but Jimmy Swaggart. In turn, the 52-year-old evangelist, clutching a microphone and bending over it, moved through a litany of those whom he said he had sinned against.
