The Hits Album, or Hits 1 as it is often called, is a compilation album released by CBS (Now Sony BMG) and WEA in November 1984. The album was released as a rival to the already successful Now That's What I Call Music series which EMI and Virgin Records had launched in November 1983. The Hits Album reached No. 1 in the UK Top 100 Albums chart for seven weeks and remained in the chart for 36 weeks.
Greatest Hits" covers the period of Fleetwood Mac's greatest commercial success, from the mid-70s to the late-80s with it's current line-up. The album omits anything from Peter Green incarnation of the band. The album has proven to be a major success since the time of its release. It has sold steadily and has been certified 8x platinum (over 8 million copies in the US). The album contains two new tracks, "As Long As You Follow" and "No Questions Asked".
