Open Mind (Joey Beltram). 12" Vinyl UK. Easy Street, EZS7569. The eerie atmospheres, epic synth breaks and stuttering drum machine programming combines to create the super heavy sound that early Beltram is known for and ‘The Trance’ is one record that any serious techno or electro lover will need in their bag. Rare as hen’s teeth, hard to cop and a total under the radar classic, ‘The Trance’ is here again, and it’s not taking any prisoners! As we said before, this monster dropped on Easy Street in ‘90, and has been caned by the most discerning of DJ’s and diggers across the galaxy ever since.

The Trance is an album by American jazz saxophonist Booker Ervin featuring performances recorded in 1965 for the Prestige label, with Jaki Byard on piano, Reggie Workman on bass, and Alan Dawson on drums. The Trance delivers further documentation of Ervin's endless tenor inventiveness".

As a defining point of the . ive rock crossover, the Open Mind's sole album is the perfect specimen. With a singing style rooted in the freakbeat era, rather than the operatic tenor screams hard rock ushered in, and acidic duel guitars, heavier than those of a typical psychedelic act, The Open Mind filled the gap between the beginning of one era and the end of another. Magic Potion" is unarguably their greatest moment. Its monotonous rhythm guitar anticipates the stoner rock of Hawkind while double bass drum.

I remember some people back in the day describing the Reinforced Records label as 'The Dons Of Darkness'. If producers like Joey Beltram never started making tunes in the late 1980s and very early 1990s, there probably would be no dark hardcore or anything remotely serious in the first place. It would ALL be overtly garish cheesy speeded up piano chipmunks - as if we weren't already, overwhelmingly inundated with that stuff already. Need a bit of balance both in life and in a music scene. This release encapsulates the whole dark, mystical, evil vibe to become a major part of a large portion of underground electronic music for years to come. A no nonsense beast for sure.

tangee "Overprotecting intellectual property is as harmful as underprotecting it. Culture isn't possible without a rich public domain. Nothing today, like nothing since we tamed fire is genuinely new. Culture, like science and technology grows by accretion, each new creator building on the works of those who came before. Overprotection stifles the very creative forces it's supposed to nurture" - Alex Kozinski (2003)Everybody borrows off everybody but the UK Owned Hardcore, Our Producers were the Best..Hands down. For the UK Hardcore rave scene we sampled a helluva lot of Belgium, German and Dutch stuff ie techno and house! I'm glad those producers couldn't sue for samples otherwise the UK hardcore producers wouldn't have the treasure trove that they did back then.

Yeah I can't agree more. I think a lot of the roots of hardcore---hate to say it friends---comes from the states, especially the NY rave scene. Obviously acid was a big precursor but these dark heavy ass tunes by Beltram, Tommy musto, Frankie Bones, and company really kind of paved the way (along with the Belgian import sound and some early breakbeat from 1990).

Deep sounds from the early years. Beltram is upoon the time, the tracks are a vision about what would be big in 91/92 but from 1990. All tracks are dark with industrial mechanic sounds and heavy basses, sometimes with epic strings or a hypnotic female voice. Breaks, 4/4 & Breakbeat. The straightest track is Trance Machine which is another version of the first track, The Trance.
