Down Below is the debut studio album by Australian indie rock band The Cruel Sea. Originally released as a 12" EP in September 1989, it was re-released in December 1989 as the band's debut studio album. The album includes the track "Reckless Eyeballin'" – an instrumental track that later became the theme song of Australian TV police drama, Blue Heelers (1994–2006).

The Cruel Sea - Down Below Songtext. Blow away, Blow away down below away Down below, into and down below away. When you fall asleep Fall with me down into the deep When you fall asleep Fall with me down into. Down below, alone in your down below your heart I wait for you, down below until you fall apart. When you fall asleep Fall with me down into the deep When you fall asleep Fall with me down into the deep. Away, blow away Down below, Down below. Teile diesen Songtext.

An initial 12" Down Below EP was expanded into the full-length debut Cruel Sea album, also called Down Below. More comfortable with the bringing together of their two halves, clean instrumentals, and rough-edged rock vocals, with the second album This Is Not the Way Home, the band expanded their musical influences. A tour with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds through Europe helped the band work its style into place  . With each subsequent tour and album, the Cruel Sea has continued to explore their multi-faceted personality. On stage and record, there are less instrumentals. Tex Perkins contributes to the sounds during the instrumental parts.

The Cruel Sea are an Australian indie rock band from Sydney formed in late 1987. Originally an instrumental-only band, they became more popular when fronted by vocalist Tex Perkins (Beasts of Bourbon and solo) in addition to Jim Elliott on drums, Ken Gormly on bass guitar, Dan Rumour on guitar and James Cruickshank on guitar and keyboards. The band was signed by Red Eye Records and released a 12" extended play (EP), Down Below, in September. It contained nine tracks and was produced by Phil Punch (The Mexican Spitfires) and The Cruel Sea. It was followed by an eleven-track album of the same name, Down Below in December, both releases featured Perkins on vocals. Reckless Eyeballin'" – an instrumental track on the album – later became the theme song of Australian TV police drama, Blue Heelers (1994–2006).
