THE OCEAN BLUE The Ocean Blue‘s debut record on the famed Sire Records label in the late 80s achieved widespread acclaim and radio & MTV airplay. The band of four young high schoolers from Hershey, Pennsylvania went on to do several more well-received major and indie releases. Ultramarine, the band's first album in over 10 years is a spectacular return to form.
The Ocean Blue has completed recording its first new album in six years - due out sometime later this year - and has announced a handful of concerts across the country this summer to be followed by what, at the moment, remains a standalone Detroit show in November. The group released Davy Jones’ Locker on an independent label in 1999, and followed that in 2004 with the Waterworks EP - later expanded into a full album - and the comeback Ultramarine in 2013. The band last year released a new song Therein Lies The Problem With My Life on a label compilation that you can hear below. It’s not clear whether the track will appear on the new album. See The Ocean Blue’s tour dates below as well.
The Ocean Blue's sophomore effort, Cerulean, appeared in 1991, continuing the atmospheric approach of its predecessor; the title track performed well on the modern rock charts, although the album didn't chart. Released in 1994, the Peace and Light EP closed out the Ocean Blue's Sire contract, and was also Lau's final recording with the group - he left to form his own label (Kinetic). This was followed by the six-song EP Waterworks in 2004, featuring new drummer Peter Anderson, who replaced Rob Minnig. In 2013, the Ocean Blue returned with the full-length studio album Ultramarine.
