A new companion to The Beatles’ first BBC collection, On Air – Live at the BBC Volume 2, will now be released on 11 November. On Air’s 63 tracks, none of which overlaps with The Beatles’ first BBC release, include 37 previously unreleased performances and 23 previously unreleased recordings of in-studio banter and conversation between the band’s members and their BBC radio hosts. In the studios of the British Broadcasting Corporation, The Beatles performed music for a variety of radio shows. The Beatles covered four songs from that LP at the BBC. The sleeve note for the album released in the UK in November 1959 described its contents: ‘For the most part, they’re happy songs - light, toe-tapping rhythm numbers that just naturally make you feel a little gayer’.
Album · 2013 · 44 Songs. Filled with lively banter and exuberant performances, this brilliant volume includes a pair of previously unreleased rarities: a direct-to-air performance of Chuck Berry’s I’m Talking About You and a rollicking cover of Beautiful Dreamer. Even though the recordings have significant historical value for fans-including an early version of the band’s cover of Buddy Holly’s Words of Love -the broad appeal of these sessions lies in the uninhibited, freewheeling spirit of the musicians themselves
