John Barry's best score for any James Bond movie - including the best song ("We Have All the Time in the World") ever written for any movie in the series - is reasonably well represented on this CD. Barry had already begun adding more diverse and complex orchestral pieces to his underscoring and greater lyricism to his songs with the preceding movie, You Only Live Twice, and he continued the process with On Her Majesty's Secret Service

On Her Majesty's Secret Sevece by any and and All counts stands out above any score John Barry has created. I had the soundtrack while I was stationed in Japan while severing in the Air Force. It got lost along with my Duffle Bag on my way back to the state's. With this song, John Barry and Peter Hunt fully deliver some of Fleming's original intent in the novel, despite the inevitable smoothing over that all the films give the author's seedier touches. We can't help but understand Bond's intensified feelings for the girl. We can understand his respect for her, she's no quivering damsel, but a capable woman who drives his getaway car with a smile. I can't fathom why the original "James Bond Theme" was chosen over the "Battle at Piz Gloria" cue, unless they felt it necessary to remind the audience who.
