Flute Concerto in D minor (2/3) Antonio Vivaldi. Haydn had an ulterior motive for writing the new work for Weidinger. He had managed to poach him from the orchestra in Vienna, persuading him to join the band of musicians, which Haydn headed, in the employ of the Austro-Hungarian Esterházy family. Weidinger premiered the work on his arrival, changing bits of the music as he did so (either with or without Haydn’s consent, it’s unclear). Recommended Recording. Tine Thing Helseth (trumpet); Norwegian Chamber Orchestra. Illustration: Mark Millington.

Trumpet Concerto (Michael Haydn). Michael Haydn's Trumpet Concerto in C major, MH 60, was completed in 1763, and "is one of the most difficult in the entire repertory. The work is in two movements: I. Adagio. Confusingly, this concerto is sometimes listed as Trumpet Concerto No. 2 in C major, but the Trumpet Concerto No. 1 in D major, MH 104, is technically two excerpts from a divertimento and not a concerto proper.
