Record Label: Matador. Release Date: Oct 6, 2009. This album sounded exactly as I imagined it would, sounding pumped in straight from a dingy practice space from the early 80’s. It’s just that the music sounds more in service to the post-punk ideal than to the individual songs, affecting a feeling of taking a wild trip through a style instead of offering memorable individual experiences.

Reformed post-punk legends Mission of Burma will mark the release this fall of their third post-comeback album, The Sound The Speed The Light, with a brief six-date tour that'll take the band to Austin, Texas, and down the West Coast. The run opens Nov. 8 with an appearance at Austin's. The label still has not revealed the album’s full tracklist, although it is offering a free MP3 of one of the songs on the record: 1, 2, 3, Partyy! Additionally, the band last month released Innermost, a 7-inch single featuring two non-album tracks. Full tour dates after the jum. ission of Burma tour dates: Nov. 8: Fun Fun Fun Fest, Waterloo Park, Austin, TX Nov. 10: Doug Fir Lounge, Portland, OR Nov. 11: The Crocodile, Seattle, WA Nov. 12: WOW Hall, Eugene, OR Nov. 14: The Independent, San Francisco, CA Nov. 15: The Echoplex, Los Angeles, CA. Artist: Mission of Burma. CD: The Sound the Speed the Light. Tightly embracing guitar effects and tape loops, Mission of Burma made sound an important commodity in rock 'n' roll, and its members carried that tradition into their first album after a 19-year hiatus, 2004's ONoffON. With engineering legend Bob Weston at the controls, the band was back rattling rock's cages, but its classic sound wasn't all there. Last year, Mission of Burma's original albums got the reissue treatment, and with that as a backdrop, the band has rounded into to form.
