Kenny Werner: The Space by Dan Bilawsky, published on November 6, 2018. Werner could have easily filled an entire album with such questioning tones, but he immediately cuts another way by gamboling across Keith Jarrett's "Encore From Tokyo. That pairing of tracks proves analogous to the idea of a sunny day sweeping away life's uncertainties. In Werner's own constructs-the curious odyssey at the point of embarcation, the "Fifth Movement," and the wistful "Fall From Grace"-there's a clear acknowledgement of acceptance, but it's almost more instructive to observe how this man interacts with.
Werner characterizes "The Space" as "the place where every note I play is the most beautiful sound I've ever heard. With his new album, Kenny Werner makes that space his home. The Space" gets its title from a chapter in "Effortless Mastery," Werner's book dealing with creativity and his approach to playing that has influenced a generation of jazz players. Werner calls The Space "the most important title I've ever had for my music.
soundbite of kenny werner'S "encore from tokyo"). WHITEHEAD: Kenny Werner's solo album is named "The Space," which is what he calls that state of mind when he's in the zone as an improviser. That name might also refer to the importance of open space within his music. You can't crowd the keys all the time. A central episode in the album's long title suite moves in and out of a flexible habanera rhythm in the left hand. That come-and-go background figure makes his improvisation loose and gently propulsive at the same time.

The Space – music in the moment Homegrown New York Pianist Kenny Werner has long been a major player on the world jazz scene. This solo album is the fourth Werner has recorded for PIROUET. PIROUET engineer-artistic director Jason Seizer had actually wanted to do a solo recording with Kenny, but Werner persuaded Jason to record his trio first. After two PIROUET trio albums and one beautiful duo album with the great Brazilian singer Joyce, it was time for The Space. PIROUET has recorded some of the premier pianists in jazz, including such artists as Marc Copland, Bill Carrothers, and Pablo Held. This production with Werner is a fitting album.
