Van Lear Rose is the forty-second solo studio album by American country music singer-songwriter Loretta Lynn. It was released on April 27, 2004, by Interscope Records. The album was produced by Jack White of the White Stripes. The album was widely praised by critics, peaking at No. 2 on the US Billboard Top Country Albums chart and at No. 24 on the Billboard 200, the most successful crossover album of Lynn's 60-year career
Van Lear Rose also gives equal import to every side of Lynn's persona, so this is equally sad and funny, sacred and secular. On a sheer sonic level, the album is enthralling - it's easy to get lost in the music, and Lynn sings with a vigor that's startling for a woman of 70 - but it's an instant classic because of how that sound is married to set of songs that are among the strongest she's ever had. On her last studio album, she wrote only one song.

Van Lear Rose does not seem like a one-way process, a hip rock star bestowing riches on a grateful pensioner. There's none of the White Stripes' slightly clenched mannerisms here, just songs like the wonderful High on a Mountaintop, where everyone involved is audibly having the time of their lives.
