Still Dangerous is a live album by Irish rock band Thin Lizzy. It was compiled from two live concerts by the band at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, just outside of Philadelphia, at 20 & 21 October 1977 during the tour in support of their Bad Reputation album. No overdubs were made to any tracks so the album is completely live. The tracks "Cowboy Song", "The Boys Are Back in Town", "Massacre" and "Emerald" were previously released on the album Live and Dangerous
Design Concept – Chalkie Davies, Thin Lizzy. Drums – Brian Downey. Guitar – Brian Robertson, Scott Gorham.
Album · 1978 · 17 Songs. Twilight's Last Gleaming: The Last of Grand Slam (Live). Phil Lynott's Grand Slam.
On the greatest live album of them all, there is a perfect moment. It’s when Thin Lizzy ease down through the gears at the end of Cowboy Song, when Phil Lynott sings, The cowboy’s lif. s the life for me, and then, boom, they’re into The Boys Are Back In Town. As soon as it registers with the audience, the sound of cheering and applause is deafening. In that moment is everything you need to know about what makes live albums so great. Live And Dangerous was a huge hit in 1978. In Britain, only the Grease soundtrack kept it off number one. Scott Gorham believes it is the best album of Thin Lizzy’s career. Live And Dangerous is what this band was all about, he says. Listen on Apple Music.
Released in 1978, just as the hot streak starting with 1975's Fighting and running through 1977's Bad Reputation came to an end, Live and Dangerous was a glorious way to celebrate Thin Lizzy's glory days and one of the best double live LPs of the 70s. Of course, this, like a lot of double-lives of that decade - Kiss' Alive! immediately springs to mind - isn't strictly live; it was overdubbed and colored in the studio (the very presence of studio whiz Tony Visconti as producer should have been an indication that some corrective steering may have been afoot).
That Live And Dangerous became the most beloved and popular Thin Lizzy album is a product of circumstance. Through the 1960 and 1970s, live albums served specific purposes. They might act as de facto greatest hits records; they might capture the live magnificence of a group not deemed to have quite bottled the magic when they went into the studio; they served as a flab-free introduction to groups that a label wanted to get behind but couldn’t quite find a way to sell; they were the way to bypass. inconsistent albums to produce a single collection that could be marketed strongly.
Thin Lizzy's 1978 double album, Live and Dangerous, along with Kiss' Alive, the Who's Live at Leeds, and the Rolling Stones' Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out, is one of the greatest live rock albums of all time. The band wisely hooked up with producer Tony Visconti, again, and although it's become known in later years that the tracks included extensive overdubbing, many of the performances outshine the original studio versions. Except for a few tracks, the majority of the material spans from 1974's Nightlife to 1977's Bad Reputation, while the concerts were recorded.
