Time Further Out, Miro Reflections. Wonderful Copenhagen, the Dave Brubeck Quartet Live in Europe 1958. Dave Brubeck Quartet.
Unlike most sequels, Time Further Out is a worthy successor to Time Out. Among the numbers introduced on this impressive set are "It's a Raggy Waltz" and "Unsquare Dance" (the latter an ancestor of Don Ellis' "Pussy Wiggle Stomp"). The selections, which range in time signatures from 5/4 to 9/8, are handled with apparent ease (or at least not too much difficulty) by pianist Brubeck, altoist Paul Desmond, bassist Eugene Wright, and drummer Joe Morello on this near-classic. 1. It's a Raggy Waltz.
Time Further Out: Miró Reflections was the group’s attempt at a jazz interpretation of Miró’s 1925, a visually kinetic work featuring a prominent string of numerals descending from the upper edge of the canvas. These numerals would come to represent the time signatures for each tune, from the 3/4-time It’s A Raggy Waltz to the moody, off-kilter strains of the 9/8-signature closer Blue Shadows In The Street.
Time Out is a studio album by the American jazz group the Dave Brubeck Quartet, released in 1959 on Columbia Records. Recorded at Columbia's 30th Street Studio in New York City, it is based upon the use of time signatures that were unusual for jazz such as 98, 64 and 54. The album is a subtle blend of cool and West Coast jazz. It peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard pop albums chart, and has been certified platinum by the RIAA.
