Fear of Music is the third studio album by American rock band Talking Heads, released on August 3, 1979 by Sire Records. It was recorded at locations in New York City during April and May 1979 and was produced by the quartet and Brian Eno. The album reached number 21 on the Billboard 200 and number 33 on the UK Albums Chart, and spawned the singles "Life During Wartime", "I Zimbra", and "Cities".

Producer – Brian Eno, Talking Heads. Songwriter – David Byrne (tracks: 2 to 11). Notes. Although Record Service GmbH is mentioned as the manufacturer, this is a reissue made by Warner Music Manufacturing Music, as the matrix reveals. LP originally released 1979. The birds on track 11 recorded at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, Brisbane, Australia.

By titling their third album Fear of Music and opening it with the African rhythmic experiment "I Zimbra," complete with nonsense lyrics by poet Hugo Ball, Talking Heads make the record seem more of a departure than it is. Though Fear of Music is musically distinct from its predecessors, it's mostly because of the use of minor keys that give the music a more ominous sound. Previously, David Byrne's offbeat observations had been set off by an overtly humorous tone; on Fear of Music, he is still odd, but no longer so funny.

Fear of Music is the Talking Heads strange transition album. It’s a quirky mixture of their early jittery pop style and their odd experimentation that is later found on Remain in Light. Like most bands that change their sound throughout their career Fear of Music presents a lot of interesting and unique ideas yet they don’t all come together. This is the second Talking Heads album where Brian Eno takes over the production and you can immediately hear the difference once the first song starts playing. The Talking Heads haven’t completely ventured away from their pop roots yet it’s obvious that.
