A Day in the Life is an album by jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery that was released in 1967. It reached number one on the Billboard Jazz album chart and number 2 on the R&B chart. It also reached number 13 on the Billboard 200. The single "Windy" became his biggest Hot 100 hit when it peaked at number forty-four. After recording for Riverside and Verve, Montgomery signed with A&M. His renditions of pop hits were played regularly on Top 40 radio.

By the time Wes Montgomery recorded this album (his debut for A&M), he was a major name in the pop world. Montgomery's melodic renditions of current pop hits caught on and were played regularly on Top 40 radio. In most cases the guitarist did little more than play the melody, using his distinctive octaves, and it was enough to make him saleable. Of his three A&M recordings, A Day in the Life (the first one) was by far the best and, although the jazz content is almost nil, the results are pleasing as background music.

Renews automatically. Wes Montgomery is not just rehashing covers of songs; listen to the background music accompanying his leads. His style was called "bumpin'" and was a pioneer of the octave technique, along with sharp melodic chord soloing. I'm no jazz expert and like many people when it comes to music there's a "feel" one cannot describe.

Producer: Creed Taylor. Main genre: Jazz, Blues. Was sampled in 11 songs see all. Multiple Elements Hip-Hop, Rap, R&B.

For A Day in the Life, Lennon wrote the opening and closing sections, while McCartney contributed the Woke up/Fell out of bed middle. For the climax, they hired 40 musicians, dressed them in tuxedos and funny hats, and told them they had 15 bars to ascend from the lowest note on their instruments to the highest.

Features Song Lyrics for Wes Montgomery's The Best of Wes Montgomery, Vol. 2 album. A Day In the Life Lyrics. Wes Montgomery Lyrics provided by SongLyrics. Lyricapsule: The Surfaris Drop ‘Wipe Out’; June 22, 1963.
