Robert Joseph Bare Jr. (born June 28, 1966) is an American singer-songwriter and musician. Bare was born in Nashville, Tennessee, the son of singer Jeannie Bare (née Sterling) and country musician Bobby Bare, Sr. His parents met in 1963, when his father hired Bare's mother to join his act as a singer. Bare's mother, Jeannie, was a shopkeeper in Nashville. Bare has a younger brother, Shannon, and a younger sister, Angela.
The roots-rock outfit Bare Jr. was led by singer/songwriter Bobby Bare J. son of the '70s-era country star; also comprising guitarist Michael Grimes, electric dulcimer player Tracy Hackney, bassist Dean Tomasek and drummer Keith Brogdon, the Nashville-based group debuted in 1998 with the EP Custom Gauge, followed by a stint on that summer's.

And yet Bare Jr. maintains his third solo album was more carefully orchestrated, since rehearsals were held and arrangements worked out previous to the sessions. Well, there is no denying the firepower. The son of a legendary Nashville country singer, Bobby Bare Jr. has been carving out his own particular niche for the past decade with songs that are loose and loud, tough and tender, country-influenced but clearly rock. He’s joined by members of My Morning Jacket, Clem Snide and Lambchop, who intuitively understand the demands and never overshine the songs.
Bobby Bare Jr. joins that list with "The Big Time. If you're a person who believes in tongue-in-cheek humor, you will really appreciate this song. This has all the sarcasm you'd expect from a Nick Lowe song. Frankly, when you hear this song, you realize how rare it is to find intelligent wit in music. A couple things are clear when you listen to this album. First, Bobby Bare Jr. is not interested in pursuing the Nashville sound just because that's where he grew up and that's where his dad made his name. Second, Bare just writes a really good song. Thank goodness there will always be some who eschew the traditional. Bobby Bare Jr. plays The Fonda Theatre on 13 June with Guided By Voices.
