Stevie Moore has released 400 or so albums since the late 1960s. Issued by the Charlatans' Tim Burgess, this compilation follows last year's Ariel Pink-curated collection with a focus on Moore's knowing take on pop and his fondness for Ween-style prankster rock. In fact, as Wire writer Matthew Ingram asks: "Why is he in the 'weird' camp at all?"

Great intro album but also a great album taken as it is. I have let many borrow this and they have all been blown away as they have never heard of this master of music. Lo-fi, great tunes, and a lot of filler, too, yeah. Stevie released everything; lots of fun FF'ing through all the crap on a Walkman. His later stuff just didn't move me as much - not that I've heard it all, or even most of it. But to my ear, what I heard lacked that certain spark the earlier stuff had. I'm pretty sure all musical artists suspect us fans are idiots for liking the early stuff best. I don't think it can be helped. I'm bored writing all this crap.

In the case of this latest attempt at introducing US pop outsider and Ariel Pink mentor R Stevie Moore to a wider audience, you airbrush out most of the weirdness and portray your subject as a mildly eccentric singer-songwriter.
