The Land of New Hope is the first full-length album by Timo Tolkki's metal opera project Avalon. The album was released on May 17, 2013 in Europe and May 21, 2013 in the US. According to Tolkki "I sort of rediscovered myself musically in the process of making this album. I wrote the story first and started composing the music after that .
Timo Tolkki's Avalon is a symphonic heavy-metal project founded by former Stratovarius guitar player Timo Tolkki (Symfonia, Revolution Renaissance) with drummer Alex Holzwarth. Their first album, Land of New Hope (2013) features vocalists Michael Kiske (Unisonic, ex Helloween), Sharon Den Adel (Within Temptation), Elize Ryd (Amaranthe), Russel Allen (Symphony X), Tony Kakko (Sonata Arctica) and Rob Rock (Impelliteri).

Although Avalon has been described by the media as a Metal Opera, it really is a vehicle for Timo Tolkki to express his music in various formats using high quality musicians. Avalon is formatized in the sense that for example in a live situation, anyone of the vocalists could sing in the live show. It doesn’t have a permanent line up except Tolkki.
